Carol Berkin is Presidential Professor of History, Emerita, Baruch College and The Graduate Center, CUNY. She is the author of numerous books including: Jonathan Sewall: Odyssey of An American Loyalist which won the Bancroft Award and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize; A Brilliant Solution: Inventing the American Constitution; Revolutionary Mothers: Women in the Struggle for American Independence; Civil War Wives: The Lives and Times of Angelina Grimke, Varina Howell Davis and Julia Dent Grant; Wondrous Beauty: The Extraordinary Life and Adventures of Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte, and, most recently, The Bill of Rights: The Fight to Secure America’s Liberties.
Her newest book, A Sovereign People: The Crises of the 1790s and the Rise of American Nationalism will appear in May 2017.
Professor Carol Berkin has appeared in over a dozen documentaries on PBS and the History Channel and is the editor of the online journal History Now.
